Free ESL Lessons for Students and Teachers

The lessons are meant for intermediate English as a Second Language (ESL) students, but could be used by English-speaking adolescents as well. They are based on current events in the news. Each lesson includes an original article, comprehension questions, and prompts that can be used for speaking and writing. Every lesson has printable PDF worksheets that you can use in your classroom.

The reading comprehension quizzes are interactive, and that means that students can use them independently, receiving immediate feedback on their responses.

Similar websites tend to use simple questions that can be answered by scanning the article for specific information. ESL Frog worksheets test higher-order thinking skills, such as making inferences, understanding the main ideas, and interpreting figurative language.

The lessons are intended for intermediate English students. Using the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), this corresponds to levels B1 and B2. A2 students will struggle with the content, but they may be able to do it if they are given considerable support. C1 students might find the quizzes rather easy, and they can try to answer the questions as quickly as possible.

Join us and watch as this project grows and evolves. In the future there will be lessons in grammar, listening, and pronunciation.
